Project Information

When I'm not working with my dunage wood I also turn bowls and peppermills. I'll post my peppermill later. The first two and last two picturs are from a flowering cherry tree that was removed because it died. It is so knurled and knarly that the inside grain is spectular. I tried a natural edged aspect and fell in love with the style. The third shot is cocobolo from Rockler (even scroungers like me have to buy wood once in a while). The fourth is black walnut that I inlaid some garapa and brazilian cherry for a design. Next posting will be some peppermills. My daughter works for the State Department and gives my bowls and peppermill out as gifts to folks she works with when she is aborad so I have bowls and peppermills all over the world. The latest was Pakistan.

Absolutely excellent work. I consider myself to be reasonably good turner so I know what it takes to turn bowls like this. You are displaying exceptional talent in this work. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic! These are just amazing. Have seen lots of stuff done with odd shaped pieces of wood but this it just unreal. Wonderful shapes, wonderful wood. Exceptional turnings.

Keep it up.

Very nice bowls. How did you get such a squared bottom on that last one?

Jim, I see now how those sharp corners are done at the bottom inside wall, after having done mine recently with a square-edged scraper tapered back a little on one side. It takes having done it to understand things, sometimes. You do inspire me to do more, and try different things.
