Project Information

This is the Wesley Dresser that I just finished. The case and drawer fronts are made entirely out of 3/4" walnut ply including the back panel. The drawer boxes are machined dovetailed and are constructed out of 1/2" poplar. The drawers and door are inset and cut from the same "blank". I used Accuride self closing slides and Blum Clip top hinges with blumotion soft closure. The pulls are have a nickle finish as well as the 3"h stiletto legs. This piece has been designed and built so that it could be produced quickly but without sacraficing quality. Finish is 1 coat tung oil, 5 coats wipe-on poly and wax.

dimensions: 18"d x 48"w x 35"h

EDIT

I updated the pictures and have included the finished removable changing top.

Brian, Brian & Jarrod,

Thanks guys. The shelves are also ply with edge banding. The entire concept was that it could be made with two full sheets of 4×8 ply. The pulls and legs were sourced. Brian good call on the undermount slides. This one was for me so I can work out and fine tune the details so great feedback. My question is can undermount slides be used without a front or back rail? I have never used them and need to investigate. Jarrod, Thank you this is actually in our nursery for our son and named after him.

OK this is crazy I am working on something similar for a client. The design inspiration is from west elm. I'll try to email you the current drawing.

This is a really nice piece Brian, definitely has a West Elm/DWR feel to it (which I like).

I think adding undermount slides would make a big diff too. The part that goes in the case is still attached to the sides and there is a bracket you can get for the back, definitely doable.

This came out great Brian. Like always, the project and the materials told you what to do. Its good you listened. (Although, they did have to shout) I think it sounded something like this "wth are you thinking using melamine, Brian!" But I've had moments just like that for sure. The walnut looks really cool.

I know this is an exciting project for you. Congratulations on both "Wesleys."

yeah man try the blum soft close under mounts, they are super clean looking. What was your choice for joining the case together?

Gene,

Thanks we are adopting a little boy from Korea, We will bring him home in a few months when everything is finalized.

Brian and Damian,

I just checked out the blum undermount and Accurides version and those are super sweet. I will have to try those on the next time I use slides. Thanks for the recommendation. Since I used 3/4" ply,The case construction is simply biscuit joinery.

Blake,

I can honestly say I never had a project go sideways (figuratively and literally) like this one. What initially started out in one direction for materials selection ended up in a totally different direction. Usually I like to have 80% percent controll over the process and then let the material and design speak to me on the other 20% allowing myself to follow what the project is "telling me". Ultimately I am much happier with the outcome then I would have been if I stuck to my original design of a melamine case and walnut drawer/door fronts and walnut base.
