Project Information

Hi All,

Like most woodworkers, I drawn to traditional projects like this curly maple wall clock that now hangs in my kitchen. It's a simple design but I got real lucky when I found the material completely by accident when shopping for some wormy maple.

All the best

Wow! I'm not usually a fan of that much figured wood, however, you have made me rethink my position.

I like maple and the clock looks great but it is to much maple for my eye. I was hesitating giving slightly negative comment but thought hard on it before posting. I am not by any stretch an authority on wood or art, again in my humble (very humble) opinion maybe a little contrasting wood might have helped accent the wonderful lines and great looking maple.

There's one thing about curly maple; it just gets better lookling as time goes on. 200 years from now this clock will just look better and we hope, still keep excellent time.

Great looking clock. Thomas, I agree with you - the maple will probably look even better in 200 years. I will be more than happy to post pictures when the time comes :))

Hi snowdog,

Honesty will get you a long way with me and I like your honesty.
I'm not offended in any way, shape or form and happy to see that you said what was on your mind.

I thank each and everyone one of you for your comments and if we as woodworkers can't tell one another what we think of a piece…................................................ then I think I'll take up knitting.

All the best

Nice job, Gord! Curly maple rocks… I like anything with that wavy, curly, waterfall look. Very good job, as usual. Great post!

This is absolutely stunning! Very nice.

If you answered this already, I didn't see it. Where did you get the plans?

Great choice of wood!
What did you use for a top coat?
Where you able to "Pop" the grain?
