Project Information

I designed Storm to use wood that I had rescued. As with most of my art I choose to use a clear hand rubbed finish to enhance the natural beauty of the wood.

The top is Northern Catalpa and the base is Ash.

One day while I was in my working in my studio I heard a chainsaw, so I walked across the street to find that a tree surgeon was cutting down a Northern Catalpa. I asked him if I could have the lumber. He was curious what I would do with it, so he came to see my studio and then offered to mill the wood. Two years later Storm is the result.

Hi Henry,

I was a high school woodshop teacher for 32 years & since 2001 have been an adjunct teaching furniture design at William Paterson U in NJ.

I do some things publications. Some are 500 Tables,Studio Furniture from Today's Leading Woodworkers, Pro portfolio from Fine Woodworking, an article in Woodshop News. My wife Marie handles the business & does a good job getting my work out.

Do you know Tony Williams, he & his wife are friends of ours.

Excellent looking table. What dimensions did you make it? It is hard to tell from the photo.

That's very inspiring. I like the relative thinness of the table top…it's like the flat top of a cumulous nimbus formation, very cool.

This is a beautiful piece.

In this instance, what was involved for the "clear hand rubbed finish"?

Thank you for sharing it with us and welcome to LumberJocks!

Every now and again comes an item with the 'wow' factor, my test is would I have that item in my house?

And yes I would, well done. If you can be bothered more pictures from different sides would be welcome.
