Project Information

Just a quick project for my wife. Walnut scrap inlayed into maple. First complete inlay I've done with my Shaper Origin. Made it awful easy!

Pocket routed the negative in the maple first, which I thought was going to end up being a mistake after I started because getting the piece realigned if I needed to widen the pocket would be impossible, but adding a .003 offset for glue ended up being perfect on the first go. Lucky! But the precision of the Origin is amazing that way.

Routed the outside perimeter for the positive image (walnut) and resawn the piece to release the image. Two swipes with a chisel on one of the tight corners and it was all gravy. I didn't futz with any of the other edges and the fit is pretty awesome.

Finished with a couple coats of mineral oil.

Certainly not. The ease and accuracy of the Origin is really astounding.

Good job… Eagerly awaiting its arrival in Australia so I can trade SO creations with others…

Was that a posed picture #1... looks like the outline of a turtle under the tray.

Ha! I didn't notice that. No it's not, but it does look that way a bit!
