Project Information

These birds have been hand carved and painted with acrylic gouache and finished with a layer of wax for protection. I have found that using polyurethane has a darkening effect on the paint work and I loose all the highlights and vibrancy of the painting.

Me too, that is why I wondered about predators. Truly amazing.

Thanks guys, they are certainly different to carve than something flat. I think the carving of them is the easier part as I find the painting the most time consuming and tedious.
These parrots are on the vulnerable list and only found in a small area of Australia. We are lucky to see them frequently in spring where we live.
This carving was a gift to someone who is leaving the area.
