Project Information

My brother died of a heart attack back in June. No Covid involvement. He was a bachelor, so we (his siblings) had him cremated. He will be interred with our parents. He was 62.

I made this box for his cremains out of oak which came from some cabinet doors I was given. For a finish I made a wash with black paint diluted with mineral spirits. This really accentuated the grain. Then I used spray lacquer to give it a sheen. The fourth picture shows the locating pins I use to keep the alignment with the edges for the scews that hold the bottom on.

I decided to leave the top blank as I'm not an engraver.

I too, like the others before me said, very sorry for your loss. This box is a nice tribute to your brother, and I'm sure if your brother could say it to you, he would be most pleased.
