Beautiful and elegant piece of art. And nice choice of woods, the contrast works very well.

Can you perhaps explain in a bit more detail on how you did the veneering on these compound curved surfaces? Did you use animal glue? Or synthetic glue and an vacuum press?

Thanks
I've written a article for American Woodturner on the entire process. Way too much to explain here.
PVA Heat Lock glue, hand pressing using compression method for compound forming. this one was easy compare the the female torso I did. I just started a monthly live veneering demonstration, I will be showing this process in future classes. go to imaginewoodworking, sign up for free design news letter and announcements for veneer demo will go through that.

Beautiful work, I'm anxious to see your article in AW. Scott, what did you use for the substrate for this piece? From the video it looks like mdf? Also, will you be covering your turning methods in the AW piece?

I used Poplar as the substrate, I wanted to demonstrate that "cheap" wood could be used, helping to make the case for veneer. I do explain some of the turning tips although not in-depth as I need to keep the word count down.
I think the next video I'll slow it down and show all the steps.
This one I was focusing on still shots for the article.

Thanks Scott, are you laminating the poplar to minimize movement?

I did on one and not the other, just to see. I used Unibond 800 - rigid glue line.

Thanks again, I was able to attend your workshop at Mn Woodworkers Guild a few years ago. Your work is very inspirational.
