Project Information

I made this about 10-12 years ago. All the old victorian loveseats were cloth covered with plush fabrics, but I wanted the challenge to make the same idea just using wood. At the time I had a source for Spanish cedar that was 3" thick. With out any plans I jumped right in. I put 2 folding chairs next to each other facing opposite direction and measured how wide it needed to be. Same for the hight of the seats. Looked up some pics of the old style loveseats to get the idea in my mind. It was quite a process and there were times I had to put the project aside for a while to clear my mind. I found out that you can buy a chain saw blade and various carbide grinding wheels to fit a right angle grander. You should have seen the chips fly. Good thing I wasn't married back then. My wife would have divorced me because of the mess. Any way, I used a wipe on tung oil for the finish. I've found out that Spanish cedar has a tendency after a few years to slightly raise up and needs to be sanded down and refinished again,, This was true with a couple of other pieces I've made. If I ever use the S.C. again, I'll try another finish.

peteybadboy said it and I concur.

grain raising ? perhaps a lacquer sanding sealer prior to a poly finish ? or maybe a lacquer spray on
