Farm style side table. Fits perfectly under the wall mirrors and doesn't clutter the slack being so narrow. Finished it with a double whitewashed look, white paint and Jacobean stain.
I'm working on something similar - 'farm style' end tables, but with painted frames and stained tops. Been a little frustrated with the way stain 'takes' on 2x lumber, even with pre-stain conditioner - very inconsistent
I'd be very interested in hearing about your finishing process - what you used, in what order, etc.!
On the dining room table I sanded down the table top (2×12) with 60-100-220 paper. After sanding I took Jacobean colored stain(very dark) and stained it knowing it will dry lighter on the 2x wood (I stained it 3 coats) the dark color hides a lot of the imperfections on the wood.
For the other table with the "whitewash" look.
I sanded the same way, then took a paint brush and slapped the stain on sloppily. This gave it the used look. Then when that dried i did the same with white paint and then I once more hit it with the stain. This gave it the "white washed" look
