Project Information

Hey Lumberjocks,
I picked up a "new to me" 1 1/2 hsp. Craftsman tablesaw with a very heavy old school cast and machined top.
I was told it was a 1950-1960 vintage saw. And it does look like the saw from shop class 45 years ago. I didn't do much to it, just a quick clean up. I knocked all the rust off the top of the table with WD-40 then lightly sanded with 400. I used the orbital sander to take the rust off the cabinet and resprayed with some very closely matching paint.
Rewired a plug and it runs perfect. I am in the process of changing all the old belts on the shop machines and upgrading to the "link" style belts. I am really impressed with the new belts- easier to install and adjust and I believe they run quieter.
Thanks for checking out the "new to me" Craftsman tablesaw.

Nice work getting that good old saw back into shape. That was made when Craftsman tools and motors were really good!

Cheers, Jim

You got yourself an awesome old saw. It has a few more lifetimes left in it. No plastic to wear out.

Sweet! Nice restoration job. Probably a better saw than most of the new ones.

Nice work, that's one of the best table saw Sears ever sold. Enjoy!

Like Jim said. This is when Craftsmen made great tools.
What type of fence is on it and are you going to upgrade it?

Way to go in breathing new life into a quality tool. Would rather this than a new one

I restored a Rockwell band saw and thoroughly enjoyed it-but I did upgrade many of the accessories with latest tech. So don't let purity hold you back!

WOW, nice job on breathing second life into that saw.

Yeah, I love me some link belts. Up to 2HP they rock, not quite heavy enough over 2 though. Easy to adjust, and so quite to run. I have taken tools that walked across the floor on an old rubber belt with set in it, to sitting still, and so quite you didn't know if it was running, just with a belt change.

Enjoy your saw.
