That is really interesting, but I have no idea of how you did that on a lathe. Is there a video somewhere that shows this?

Steven this was turned as a normal bowl and cut in half vertically down the middle then the 2 halves glue back together at what would have been the lips of the original bowl thus forming the elliptical bowl. Hope this helps with the understanding how it was made.
