Project Information

A few years ago we had the opportunity to buy an antique Junghans (German) wall clock. It was working but was damaged and missing the top piece typical of these "regulator" clocks. At the same time I was starting an ornate carving design I had seen in a book, and I realized it could be adapted to the clock, so I incorporated some elements that carried the columns up into the top to merge with the flowers & leaves. It is probably more ornate than the original, but we like it. More recently I carved the stain away from the flowers for emphasis.

Basswood, 1-1/2" x 4" x 12" - stained dark

Very nicely done Phil. It looks like the top piece was always there from the beginning.
I like it.

If you hadn't told us the carving was a modern addition I wouldn't have guessed. Was it difficult to match the colors?

Thanks for sharing,

This rose and laurel spray design was from "Classic Carving Patterns" by Lora S. Irish, 1997, The Tauton Press.
