Project Information

Got the new shop framed in over the weekend. Electrical is next, then plumbing (yes ! a bathroom in the basement, and a utility sink in the shop !). Then drywall. I will do all the trim work, painting and flooring.

The plan is to have the entire basement finished by mid-November. There is a very large bedroom for the grandchildren, 2 storage rooms, a utility room for the sewer pump and AC, and a large "activity" room (22×34) for what I don't know. Lots of windows, and a door exiting onto a patio under the upstairs deck.

Oh, the shop is 20×28' so I will have more room than before, plus a 9' ceiling.

please make sure you have a second form of egress from the basement for your grandchildren just in case.

More pics of the shop when you are done.

As always with a project like this…..add another month or two…..somenting always comes up that causes delays. Looks like a good start, keep it going!

Yeah - my original thought was to use that for the shop but was immediately told that all those nice windows would not be wasted on a shop!

Looking good so far….Sounds like you have a plan of attack…I agree with Hutch…plan to add more time on the shop build as some things to cause delays…there's always something else to do….!! My shop was planned for 4 months, and it was finished 5 1/2 months later…..!!

Bigger shops are always fun. I'm jealous that you have all that space to play with. Good luck with the build out.

I'm currently working on expanding my shop since I maxed it out mine about 1 year ago.

This is the roll up door to give me better access to the shop.

The temporary door seals the passageway to the existing shop.

This the the other end of the new shop area.

The addition will add approximately 13 ft X 21 ft of space to my existing shop.

When I'm done, the walls of the new shop addition will be covered with plywood like the existing shop. It gives me an easier way to utilize all the walls to hang stuff.

Shop update!

Framing done. I have 3 poured concrete walls that had to be framed in for the drywall. There are 2 large (10x10) storage rooms; a large bedroom 20×20' w/ closet; a full bath, a utility room for the HVAC and sewage pump; Then come a "general purpose" room (for want of a better term) that is 22×34', and finally the shop. It is last priority, by declaration of you-know-who.

The electrical rough-in was done in 6 hours flat by 3 guys, for $2400 and they furnished all materials, even to the exhaust fan in the bath !! What a deal.

HVAC is scheduled for next week. I specified something they didn't like. I want 2 supply registers at one end of the shop, with a return at the other end, adjacent ot the air handler unit on the other side of the wall. I want a 20" x 30" filter holder (whatever the correct term is). The purpose is to prevent any airborne dust missed by the dust collector and air cleaner from entering the air handler and escaping into the rest of the basement. Hope it works - anyone done anything like this?

I could probably do much of this stuff, but it would take me forever, and these guys know the code. I know what is safe for electrical, but don't know every nuance of the code, and they are quite strict here.

I did all the finish work and painting - except the ceilings - I don't even try to paint ceilings.
