Project Information

Here's a Humidor I started the other day. Kind of looks real simple here, but it will be far from it when i'm done in a week or so. The sides are Jatoba, Maple guides and inlays, Wenge' lid frame with crowning and maple medallion. It'll have a fancy snancy (is that a word) locking mechanisim and a mechanical key lock. It will have Spanish Cedar lining on the entire inside. Dang…. I guess I ought to add a kitchen sink :)

Nice humidor and great pictures of the process. I've thought of making one of these for my wife's boss, but realized that there is more to it than making a nice box. I look forward to your updates.

Thanks All. - Although the final work will be recognized as another accomplished boxmaker, I'm working from something I saw, and took his ideas and am making this humidor. It'd be easier if I had measured drawings, but as it is, this one is moving along with a scratch on the head here, story recording here and there, a couple of ooops, and hopefully something useful, artistic and nice looking when I'm done.

The next pic on this one will be the completed project.

Thanks again.

OK, Here's a few more pics of the work in process. Lot's left to do on the lid /lever mechanisim. And lots of sanding. (I hate that step)

On the top of the box I've got to add a little platform matbe 3×4 inches with some artistic design that will take it off of the surface of the lid about 3 inches high. This will hold a little cradle and cylinder bored out with a 1/4 inch hole to accept a piston attached to the lever arm.

So to open the bugger, you'll need to push the lever which will disenage from the maple pin you see in the third photo. Then you can lift the lid (provided you unlocked the lock that I mortised in as you can see in the third photo.

Thanks. The inside is lined with Spansih Cedar and detailed so that when the lid shuts there's a tight seal.

Uh oh, looks like you've been "slimed" by woodwork!

Don't forget the hydrometer!
