Project Information

The wife wanted a new king size bed to replace the Queen I had made about 8 years ago. She wanted a different style but it had to go with the other furniture already built with the last bed. I came up with this design which has no metal fasteners. I think it looks great with the other furniture too. The wood is cherry and it was finished with a coat of shellac and several coats of water based poly. The forth picture is the old bed that was replaced.

Wow John, what a beauty. You outdid yourself on this one. It came out beautifully and does indeed go well with the existing furniture. That is a gorgeous bedroom set. I love me some cherry!

Great looking bed, definitely prefer the new to the old design.

How do the side rails join to the head and foot boards?

Very nice! You have great taste. I made the same headboard (old one), night stands and gentleman's chest.

Jonah, The side boards, headboard and footboard are notched and fit together and inserted into the legs. Hope that makes sense.

Nice job - always like to see use of the interlocking joinery, it's a lot of work to plan and build that style leg/bed-rail with an integrated headboard and footboard and the finish on the cherry is also well done. Congrats on a solid build.

Very nice work.

I see the old bed as a guest room gem.
