Project Information

These little boxes are for the knitter/quilter/seamstress … they are designed to hold 'notions'.

I didn't have a clue what 'notions' were, but Wikipedia says "In sewing and haberdashery, notions is an umbrella term for a variety of small objects or accessories. Notions can include items that are sewn or otherwise attached to a finished article, such as buttons, snaps, and collar stays, but the term also includes small tools used in sewing, such as thread, pins, marking pens, and seam rippers". So, now you know!

I made these in two sizes … 3-inches by 5-inches and 3-inches by 8-inches. The bottoms are maple with non-skid feet, the yardsticks came from Hobby Lobby.

COOL unusual boxes… They measured up just fine!

If, you had used a band saw to miter the sides (to keep the kerf waste to a minimum), made one at 3×5, and made one at 3×7 instead of 3×8, you could have:

1. Wrapped the measurement around the box.

2. Used One yardstick instead of yardsticks.

Note… That is a BIG "if"...

You did good at any rate! :) ... as usual!

Still unusual neat and well made! Will probably be thought of as a good "NOTION" by the recipient!

These are so cool. I think I will have to borrow your idea and make some of these as gifts.
