Project Information

I made this truck from recycled poplar. It's finished with satin polyurethane. I like working with poplar when making toys. It's strong and durable enough. It sands easy for a hardwood, takes good finish with just about any thing you want to use and it cuts great on my scroll saw.

Nice and like you I like poplar, plus I like the different shade of the wood makes it easy to color toys without painting.

I've seen some beautiful pieces. I have one that looks like someone swirled chocolate through the wood.

Morning,I use plane old Mineral Oil. Take an aluminium pan deep enough to submerge the entire toy plunge it in,turn it over, makeing sure the toy is compleatly covered, take it out let it drip dry. Takes a day for the drying. You have invested .56 cents at Wal-Mart. Kid proof finish.
