Project Information
This was a fun to turn natural edge bowl with a mystery wood that I later determined to be American Elm. The wood was found in a pile of cut wood on the side of a residential street, with no leaves to look at to help with species identification.
I turned this bowl within a week of its being cut after coring out a smaller bowl blank from it. I turned it quickly and sealed it and allowed it to dry before completing the finishing process with multiple coats of a satin lacquer.
The bowl measures 11 3/4" X 9 1/2" x 5 1/4"
I still intend to re-turn the bottom to give it a slightly different shape.
The smaller cored piece was turned two weeks later. I am not sure why it's sapwood is more yellow than the larger one.
