Project Information

This is a piece in a series I do called "Volcano Bowls". This piece is called "Saint Helens". I name the pieces for the active and inactive volcanos they remind me of. This bowl is 17 inches in diameter the bowl height is 5 inches and sits on the stands made to look as though it is flowing magma. It has two wings representing the paraclastal flow. I finished this one during my lunch at work today. I hope the photos show you the detail you asked for. This goes to a show opening this Friday night. So much wood, so little time!

Dale, welcome to LJ. Hope you like it here. When I saw this first picture from the "Projects" main page I have to admit my first thought was, "That's a piece of beef jerky with a mustache." :)

Seriously…this is awesome…I just went back and looked at your other postings…they are as well. You do some fantastic work….(great photos too). I'm curious what kind of woods are used here.

Thanks for posting your work.

The bowl is made from a Big Leaf Maple Burl Cap, The stand is walnut I have joined together then shaped, textured, burned and airbrushed. Beef jerky with aa mustache, interesting description wonder what that would look like turned?

Very nice! Noting that you live just beneath some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, can we expect to see a Pike's Peak piece?

Nice work. Do yuiu want a litle St Helen ash to go with it? I saw a few bottles the other day when my wife was cleaning out closets and cupboards.
