Project Information

I got this gorgeous Bosch Axial Glide MS a while back and have been wanting to make nice stand for it since… Finally got around to it.

It's made from a combo of oak plywood, birch ply and mahogany… The mahogany was wood from old door jambs in my house, the oak and birch was extra I had lying around. Great thing about this project is I had everything on hand, didn't have to buy any new hardware for it, I had bought those hardware and jig kits from LV when they were on clearance, and even had the hinges leftover from an old project, I even had a new in box mobile base waiting to be used!

The cabinet is 42" long and about 22" wide, and the miter saw table sits about 39" high.

Pics 1 & 2: Couple glamour shots, finished product. With both extensions I get about 8.5' of fence.
Pic 3: inside of the cabinet, lots of storage, a little shelf for my circ saw to sit, a couple blade hangers.
Pic 4: the back of the fence/extension wing system.
Pic 5: homemade fence stop
Pic 6: side view (I've beefed up that little support since this pic was taken)

The finish is one liberal coat of teak oil, that stuff makes mahogany look fantastic

Here are a bunch more pics of the build. Honestly for the most part I just 'winged it' (pun intended)... The inspiration came from a few pics I saw around the internet, one i remember was the Fix this Build that site… but since I had a bunch of odd shaped pieces I sort of just figured it out as I went along.

Start of the carcass, trying to not have to buy any more plywood. A few days later my buddy brought me a sheet and a half of birch ply that I was able to put the rest of the cabinet together with.

Added a bottom, a back and a shelf

Then started building the doors, tongue & groove with 1/4" oak ply panel

Had to shim out the sides to accept the hinges

Made some quick walnut handles a la John Heisz

Now onto building the fence and wings, it's super easy to dial these in perfectly, I'm surprised it worked out!

The supports for the wings are a mahogany and ply sliding mechanism, with a couple of 5/16" t-bolts and knobs, the extra holes were just so I could make more adjustments if needed, wasn't sure where I'd need them at first.

The underside of the wing to accept the support

A couple of shop made stops for the fences, looking toight.

Spread your wings

I made these little U shaped brackets to hold the wings to the side of the cabinet when not using the extensions, plus the bracket is the exact height of the MS table… I use to star knobs on the front of back of the wing when it is extended, gives it plenty of strength… But the wings rest on the little piece of mahogany for the supports.

Cut a hole to feed a hose through for dust collection

Teak oil does wonders to Mahogany

I decided to make a couple of ZCI's for the MS while I was at it.

This thing is on fleek! Love the way it turned out

Thanks for looking!
