Project Information

This is my version of a Shaker Candle Stand. My wife saw some pictures on pinterest and asked if I could make her one. I said sure! it does not look to hard! So as I got into it and studied some projects that I had seen on the internet and designed this one, I found out that I used every type of joint and technique known to woodworkers. From Sliding, half blind, and through dovetails, to rabbets and dadoes, to radius tongue and groves, to spindle turning and more. I think that I learned more about and improved my woodworking skills on this project more than any other that I have worked on. It is made from solid Cherry and finished off with 3 coats of Tung oil. Thanks for looking!

Nice looking candle stand. It is the best when you can both make something good looking and also improve your skills.

Beautiful, Steve!!!!! Really nice joinery. I'd never achieve such tight looking dovetails. My only question is to how topple proof is it. It looks like you might have a problem if something were to be slid over to a corner by mistake.

Steve, that is incredible execution of a very difficult project. I think you have moved from journeyman to master woodworker. My hat is off to you!

The hardest joinery was the sliding dovetails for the legs.

Would you please give me some info on how you made your jig for cutting the sliding dovetails on the router table? I have to teach a class and this looks like a great method that would be simple for students. Did you see it somewhere else or come up with it yourself? Is it as effective as you hoped? It sure looks like a great method. Thanks, Darren
