Project Information
I assume that I got this idea from Woodsmith Shop, but I can't remember. Could try to figure that out if anyone's interested.
While the execution came out just fine and I was glad to be able to use the extra vise that I had hanging around doing nothing, I would change the design next time around. It's too long for my needs and too narrow for stability, based on the height. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad and wobbly, but when push comes to shove (literally) I had to sometimes work extra hard to lock it down well, which isn't always easy. Also, it's so large that it's always in the way and pretty darned heavy and the vise makes it awkward to move around.
In fact, I really like RWE's benchop vise and might try to build that when I get a chance. I like how it's just wide enough and just deep enough. A good footprint.
I'd really love a way to clamp pieces down left to right, as well as front to back. Really, I'm avoiding the obvious, which is that I need a more robust bench with better clamping options. But still a benchtop bench is nice to have if you can identify the style you want.
