John -- you've created a monster!

January 9, 2009

Inspired by John's Extreme Birdhouses. Rick has once again been busy creating a birdhouse.

Each birdhouse he makes, now, seems to get more complicated and/or bigger!

Here is a sneak peek at what he is up to now.

Are any of the birds going to complain about the thin walls?....and what do birds say that can be overheard…? Constant spending reports that I wished we'd hear from Congress….cheap…cheap…cheap…(sorry about that.)

access: there will be holes in the front / side /back

cleaning: someone said (I think it was John) that the best way to clean out the nests is with a coat hanger with the bent end.. just reach in, twist it around and pull it back out.

"never too big" (I'm chuckling at that… can't imagine what John has planned for the future!)

elevator.. .. oops. I'll point that out to Rick :)
He's planning as he goes so I guess he started building before he realized it would need an elevator)

Barry…. rolling my eyes hehehe :)

thanks everyone.

Hi Debbie.

I have looked on this and find it to be a very good job so far. Could I ask you or John how big the lumber is cut?
I live in Norway and here I need to make the openings for the birds a little bit bigger I think!?
I am making Norwegian style birdhouses - but I really log them together and they are smaller. But I would like to try what you are doing. I look forward forthe rest of it.

Rick is using 1" wood and he's cutting it into 3/4" widths.
The openings depend on what type of bird you want to nest in them. Some like big holes, some like little ones.. some like them high in the nest and some like them low….
