Project Information
Andrew (my son) is an active member in the local 4-H, BSA Troop and Venturing Crew and it was time to start his Eagle project. He decided on replacing the 4-H cabinet in the local Grange with a modern one that would show off the awards the kids get at the local Fairs. Well here it is finished, installed and he is now an Eagle (9/16/08). These few pictures don't tell all the hard work that went into the project, nor the amount of support he received from his fellow Scouts and 4-Her's. This is only a small part of the pictures he has.
It is built using mahogany, the carcass is 3/4" plywood with solid wooden face frames and door frames. The inside of the lower cabinet is painted with epoxy paint and the upper cabinet is stained with cork on the back to hang awards etc. The upper cabinet has glass door insets and glass shelves. The carcasses are assembled using dado's and the face frames are assembled using kreg face frame system. Door frames are mortise and tenon. The sides of the cabinet are finished so if the cabinet is ever moved and the sides are are no longer hidden it is ready to be used. The cabinet is stained in Minwax Gelstain Mahogany (it needed to match the current interior of the Grange) and finished in 4 coats of Minwax Wipe-on Poly in satin. should be very durable for the next 100 years which was a requirement from the Leadership at the Grange. Each upper cabinet has three low voltage xeon lights to show off the awards and is controlled by a touch pad on the front which shows all who enter the hall that this cabinet was built by an Eagle Scout.

6/30/2010: Finally finished the top of the cabinet with a friend of mine who did the carving. The flash from the camera doesn't do the picture any favors. THe Grange and 4H love it.
