Project Information

I decided to try my hand at making end grain cutting boards. The first one I made (second one pictured) is hickory, turned out pretty well. I decided I'd make a fancier one (the one with the compass rose in the middle), which was made as Christmas present for my parents. It took a while to finish, I think it turned out well. It's made from hickory, purpleheart, yellowheart, zebrawood, and maple, edges are bird's eye maple.

Beautiful work. Your parents will likely want to hang that on the wall as art rather than use it as a cutting board! Very nice.

Thanks. My parents wanted a cutting board when they saw the hickory one I made. However, when they saw the one I made them they told me they didn't want to use it as they didn't want to put any marks on it. In the future maybe I'll make them a plain one that they'll actually use.

That is really cool….. I can't help wondering how complicated the glue-up must have been.

Incredible design and style as well as the choice of woods and finishing.
