No story just playing with the LJ features so here is a wedding gift for a friend. It turned out well and my kitchen table doesn't look to bad under it either.
I have about 2 hours of time in it not counting waiting for glue to dry.
Candy you are correct maple and walnut,it's a little over a inch thick and was all done with scrap pieces I had laying around. It's all planed by hand and no sandpaper was used. It didn't need to be very thick as it has a non slip pad under it. I don't remember the dimensions but it's quite large, and finished with mineral oil and beeswax.
It's sad that it doesn't get used enough my friends are very protective of it. But for a one of a kind gift I guess it's ok. Since then I have made two more but out cherry and mahogany for a more subtle appearance with wine balancers of the same design. One for a wedding gift ordered by my mother inlaw and the other for a $5000 a table charity auction. I hope the one at auction brings good money to help out those with disabilities. They are 16"x24"x2 1/2" and not a mirrored design like the one above.
I don't think it turned out to bad for my second cutting board. Anyways thanks for the comments and I hope it gives some type of inspiration.
nice work loyd. Ive seen so many cutting boards, and made a lot myself, but I really love the curves on yours. Definitely sets them apart from the same old same old. Well done. I can also relate on seeing people not use the CBs you make. A compliment but a painful one none the less.
No pattern it's all free hand. I seen one kind of like it on here and ran with it. I didn't like the way it looked so I put the two together so it's a mirrored image
