Project Information

This Native American is carved from a piece of Cottonwood bark. I carved him using rotary hand tools and painted with acrylics. This piece measures 7 1/2" tall, 4" wide, and 2 1/2" thick. This guy took several sittings to complete, but I'm now happy that I was patient :) Hope you like him.

Unbelievable detail. I'd go so far as to say you are a gifted artist-carver. Well done Josh.

I more than like it. That is something I would definitely hang in a prime spot in my house. Looks like a person that would be so great to sit and listen to all the stories he could tell.

you do some vary nice work realistic looking Now Don't take this wrong you are vary good But I have to say if it is realistic carving that you are going for I see just one thing that's just a little off and I'm NOT trying to put you down and that is the mouth is not the same length and the center of the eye's and if you had it judged in a art show under realistic they mite say the same thing … I like it when others tall me what I'm doing something not right and I hope you fill the same way , but like I sad you have done a Vary nice job on this I would still have to give you a blue ribbon on it …. take care Nimkee

Thanks again everyone! Nimkee, thank you for your honesty. I am just happy that folks are considering this a realistic- looking piece. I wasn't necessarily going for realism when I carved this fella', I was just trying to get the shape and detail close to what was in my head. This Native wasn't carved from a picture, and subtle variances in mouth shape and eyes only add character in my mind. I appreciate any input, be it praise or constructive criticism. :)
