Project Information

Here's the Roubo influenced try squares I made for the latest Lumberjocks swap. They are made of quartersawn bubinga and quartersawn white oak, with brass pins.

As a bonus I threw in some burled walnut tool handles from a batch I recently made. They probably don't fit the theme…but oh well. I figured my recipient (AirFramer) could make them into screwdrivers, rasp handles, or whatever.

I sure enjoyed making them. I remember taking some pics of the process but I'll be darned if I can find the pics now. I cut the kerf/slot with the tablesaw….the rest was done with and tools. A big plastic drafting square was used to get them dead square.

I made several of these so I could have some for my shop too. I've been using my set for the past month and I really like 'em. The wood is much lighter and warmer to the hand than a metal square.

These swaps are fun. Peace out, Red

Love the handles. I'm certain Airframer will really appreciate them.

Ya know, that's something I never thought to make out of wood. I like the moulding style ends on the handles. Gives them a nice flow.

I love them! "Warmer to the hand" is a good way of putting it. And they have a bit of heft to them too which I like. Excellent craftsmanship all around including the tool handles. Thanks Red!

Those look amazing, Red, but then again, that seems to be common amongst all of your projects. Since you're on my buddy list, I get an alert when you post a new project/blog. Then I click the link and look at whatever the most recent cool project is. Then I think about my half-finished 3-month-long project in the garage that I haven't touched in 2 weeks because of one thing or another. Then I feel bad. Some "buddy"!

Thanks guys, this is the first time I've worked with bubinga. Neat wood.

BinghamtonEd- Ya know, I really do sit in my shop and dream up ways to make you feel inferior…..LOL

Very nice details on the squares Red. And kudos to the above and beyond bonus of the tool handles. Your figured-walnut with copper appointments theme is growing on me.

Thanks Brad. I'll be interested to see how the copper looks after it ages a bit.

very nice,I love the handles too . I did an unforgivable thing a number of years ago and bought some handles on ebay.I have still to use them LOL , as I now just turn one when I need it ,or better still turn about four or five at a session on the lathe .It is amazing how quickly you can make them.Have fun great workmanship.
