Project Information

We live in an old house. A small one. The kitchen is not a pretty sight. After being unhappy with for many years, and tired of waiting until we could afford a new kitchen, I decided to do it myself!
I planned it all very carefully. Almost. I used my poker money and bought unfinished cabinets from Lowe's. I wish I had built them myself, but didn't have the confidence to do it.
My husband help me put on the countertop; it's a laminate, but it looks nice and we like it. Granite would have been so nice, but outrageously expensive!
I sanded, sanded, sanded, by hand primed, sanded some more and finally painted. I got my hardware at ReStore! I finally got a small electric sander, the Mouse. For the inside of the wall cabinets. I painted them blue on the inside. Put in glass shelves. Added LED lights inside top, and under the wall cabinets. Removed the panels from the doors of the wall cabinets, to replace them with glass. Here is where that "almost" comes in. There is a ceiling light that is in the way of one of the cabinet doors. It has to come down. I want to replace it with a couple of recessed LED lights.
I've never done anything electrical, but I have a friend who said he will help me with it!
I'm very happy with my cabinets, and am anxious to do some more work in the kitchen!

Thank you!
When we first moved into our old house, this was an empty wall. We got two inexpensive bookcases for shelf space. A good idea that became a messy looking thing. I finally got so tired of it that I started thinking, and decided to stop wishing and start working. After coming up with my plan, I got unfinished cabinets from Lowe's. I liked their quality and they were on sale, too!
I sanded, by hand, sanded, sanded more! Then primed, and sanded some more and added a second coat of primer. More sanding, and two coats of white paint!
I love not just having the storage and counter space, but a nice looking wall of cabinets! Still more to do in that room!!
Saving my poker money!

Oh, that's Chip in the pictures. One of my three furry helpers.

First - Welcome to LJs. Very nice, doing things yourself is certainly gratifying.
