Project Information

Hello All,

Just got back from New Hampshire and wanted to share the fruits of my R&R. This a Sack Back Rocker Mike Dunbar style. There was a great time had by all that attended the class and Mike,Fred and Don didn't disappoint. There were two advanced chairmakers raised to Earl, and six second time chairmakers let in on some of the secrets of Windsor chairmakers. Most importantly the distress call, secret handshake and how to identify fellow windsor chairmakers abroad. All quirks of the insane world of the Windsor chairmakers which I am happy to be a part of.

Hope you enjoy viewing this rocker as much as I enjoyed making it. Back to Front!

This is a really nice chair. You had a wonderful opportunity presented to you with this class.

Well done.

Now sit down and take a load off, you deserve it. Great looking chair!

What a strange bunch we woodworkers are. While most people vacation on the beach our R&R is spent woodworking! I guess this is the secret handshake we all share! LOL!

Well done. I was reading Mike's blog on making the rocker the other day and liked his comments that it is so much more than just a sack back on rockers. I have only built the sack back and continuous arm so far and would love to get up to NH to learn with the Windsor Institute.

How are you going to finish it? Stain or milk paint?

Way to go, I've been waiting to see how your rocker turned out and you have not dissapointed me. It looks great. I agree with TedM, we must be the only idiots in the world who's idea of a vacation to go sweat over a piece of wood all day, get a shower, dinner and off to bed so tired that you just want to get enough rest so that you can do it again tomorrow. Great rocker, did you get your leg splay angles dead on?

Thanks for the kind words guys! I still have to put some finishing touches on the chair and then it will be black over red milk piant. My six year old son has claimed the chair so it's time to make another. I'll be going back in August to do a Philly High Back and will be counting the days. My wife will soon be a Windsor chairmaker's widow!

Great job Fred from one chairmaker to another!
The sawn arm chair or Philly high back is a nice chair to build and makes what I believe is the best looking windsor rocker. Keep it up!
