Project Information

I like the way this night-time picture of my recent
chairs emphasizes form over color or figure.

Walnut with quartered white oak back slats. Curved
parts were steam bent except the armchair front
legs and armrests.

That's a dirty hardboard template dropped into the rabbet
of the armchair, not a cushion.

Nice work Loren. I like the design. They look like they will be very comfortable.

I like this picture. I have never tried steam bending, or chairs yet. Chairs are high on the list for 2014.

Very nice Loren, they have a classic form but remain distinct. I especially like the shape of the front legs on the carvers, the proportions on both look just right. Hope they are a success for you, Happy Holidays.

You now have the Captain's or Father's chair and the rest of the set, when does production begin? Thank
you for sharing.

I'm leaning towards oil. These are prototypes meant for
photography purposes.

I'm kind of burned out on the project right now -
there were a lot of jigs and mockups and annoyances
in figuring it all out. I still have to do the slip cushions,
do the photography, figure out how to price them,
which way to approach the market…. kind of ugh,
at this moment. I won't produce them on spec for
the time being… the design will have to prove it will
sell readily at a price that works for me before I commit
the time to making chairs for future customers.

Thanks for the compliments. I totally encourage any of
you to pursue making a dining chair. It's a pain to
learn but it can turn out better than you might
expect. This one did. It started out as a
mockup of a chair from a book but evolved into
something very different.

I know the trials and tribulations you went through to build these but they turned out VERY nice.
