Project Information

Whipped this little handy jig up in about 20 minute in my workshop, better known as my half of the garage to my better half. I'm working on a cupcake tower (pix to come) for my sister and needed to drill some holes in a couple of 4in dowel rods. I thought about making the small pen turning press jig, but I figure I'd be drilling much longer stock in the future so this jig won that battle. It's made of 100% scrap wood, pine 2×4, 1x whitewood board, and a small piece of 220 grit sandpaper, attached with double sided tape, to hold the stock in place. Currently, I use a 6in bar clamp to hold the stock in place, but I think I'm going to add a toggle clamp for easier access. Enjoy!

Thanks for looking

Slick Idea, especially for a bench top DP.

Wow. I could have used this yesterday. I just found out my bench top DP head can be clocked. I was drilling holes for inserts in walnut dowels to become my vise handles. Trying to get everything lined up and secure hanging over the edge of the bench was a pain. I stopped at one hole until I found an easier method. Thanks for sharing. Your jig is going to make this way better. I like the tape and sand paper feature. I will definitely do this.

Cool!

I like the way you swung the head around to make things clear.

It seems like every time I do something with the drill press, I have to make a jig.
I just posted some DP jig the other day.
