Project Information

My second project, I decided I needed to build a table. Very basic, square legs and rails with three boards of Marri for the top. The whole table, top, legs and rails are Marri, I just chose the most figured wood with deep sap or gum veins for the top. The gum or sap crystalizes and is black, so I filled the veins with tinted resin, then used a card scraper to remove the excess resin and finally sanded it back to be level with the wood. I finished it off with 6 coats of Minwax wipe-on Poly satin finish. I really like wipe-on Poly; it is so easy to use and still gives good protection for wear and tear.

That is a beautiful table. Wish we had a supply of Marri around here. Lumber selection can make the whole project. Great choice.

Good work on No 2 as well.

I need to go check out the Marri type of timber you have used, as I had never heard of it before!

That Marri wood was new to me also. I like it and found the following link for a description.

Impressed with the finish, keep up the good work! I'm gonna pick your brain on exactly how you finished that one of these days!
