Project Information
Several years ago my friend Phillip and I were walking down by a small creek and i noticed this odd stick laying on the bank. The odd part was the square shape it had grown into a foot or so from one end. I'm guessing the tree root grew around something like a deck or fence post and somehow broke free or was removed and tossed in the stream a while back washing up here. The broken off end roughly resembled a bird head complete with beak so I took it home and didn't touch it for years, having forgotten about it mostly. Then the process took shape slowly as to what to do with it. Walking stick was a given since the square shape was a perfect height for an arm rest for me. Since I am Pagan I decided to go with Norse runes and created a rune staff of sorts. One side says "the joy of the journey is the freedom of movement" the others are more personal. I took my dremel and finished the bird head shaping it into a crow to symbolize one of Odin's crows and only carved in one eye. The black lines painted on the neck are the wings, tail, and talons of the crow in the old Norse style. I am not posting this to start a religious argument or to say my beliefs are better than anyone else's. This is just a thing I made from a piece of nature that I wanted to share with you. Please enjoy it
