Project Information

What me and my mother think is sycamore, redwood base.
As the second picture shows it with no base it was not originally going to have one, but then while sanding I broke thru the bottom, so life gives you lemons, make lemonade, then add whiskey… so I wanted to give this as a gift, and had to come up with a way to fix my "ooops" before the next mornings trip, so I found the only piece of wood I had available that would allow me to plug the hole and make use of it, and the redwood foot was born. As with all my bowls so far, I learned a lot, and have some more things to be more careful of next time, and also things that I can speed up.
All comments and suggestions welcome, thanks for looking.

Fine job with the natural edge bowl. Your not a woodworker unless you can fix your mistakes. You fixed it. Been there, done that.

Nice save. We have all made a few funnels. My last one became a natural edge ring bowl.

Twitch, I agree with doubleDD. I think what separates artists from guys who just throw stuff away is the ability to make a "silk purse from a sows ear". Everybody goofs up or gets a catch in a turning, but the ability to work it into the finished product is what sets us apart. I say us, because some of my mistakes or accidents have resulted in some of my best looking projects!
Great job.

Awesome bowl! Like the shape especially the natural edge and the base. Great save and solution, it looks better with the base.
