Project Information

i started building my new workbench the other weak. And i needed some long clamps the join the top together the problem with that is am to cheap to buy any. So i thought i would have ago at making them only built one at the moment.probably build more though out the weak

the pressure is applied by a wooden wedge being tapped between the clamp and the workpiece. the dowl allows the adjustable clamp head to pivot as you tap in the wedge.I used a piece of string to attach the wedge to the clamp head so i wouldn't lose it.I will end up buying some more clamps but these will work for now.

Great clamp. You gotta love low tech.
If you are into wedges as clamps and you're building a new bench, have a look at this.

Nice clamp. They apply plenty of sufficient pressure for glue-ups. I'm sure it'll work just fine, I did this too, but ended up buying clamps as time went on. I was always concerned about gluing the clamp to the work.

Nicely done. I have seen people use wedges in many different ways. Sometimes a regular clamp may not fit the application. If you make this type of wedge clamp out of hard wood it will last a very long time.

I'm new to LJ … Thanks very much for posting … I'm building my bench now & really appreciate your info - I've made a 15" & a 30", & started a couple of 4ft clamps. Very easy to build, so useful!!
