Project Information
Here is a mini file cabinet style box I made to enter into the O.C. Fair Woodworking competition. It is made from Cocobolo, birds-eye maple for the drawer fronts, and Spanish cedar for the drawers. Although the drawers look uneven in the pictures, I assure you, they are straight and aligned! Anyways, it felt pretty amazing to see my piece behind glass amidst so many amazing works. Next year I'll be entering a Maloof style rocker, so I hope to do a bit better than this year. I had a tough time with the finish, as being such an oily wood, the Danish oild on the Cococbolo wouldn't dry…even after a month! I had to go back and resand, then finish with a simple spray laquer. I should have put down a layer of shellac first, but the lesson was worth the frustration. My wife now uses it to house different dry spices and dry peppers. Thanks for looking and I hope you like it!
