I enjoy thinking up names like this. Didn't see where I could only suggest one, so here's a list. I'm not trying to flood the entry box to win the prize, I just like thinking up the names. If I can only submit one, pick your favorite and use it as the entry. I might have some more crazy ideas by noon tomorrow.

I have a question for the pros out there.

I have been lucky enough to receive a good amount of boards of white oak, they range from 2" to 3-1/4" x
    1-1/2" x 30" to 37" long.

Project: 24" x 60" woodworking bench, with a 3" top, (2 pcs. of 3/4" plywood with 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" oak boards) butcher block style, maybe 2 or 4 pieces of walnut for some style.

    Here is the Question:

Will I have any problems down the road if I build the top with the individual oak boards running the 24" way instead of the usual 60" long pieces. I have never seen a table built that way and I really don't want to end joint them, (remember the longest pieces of oak I have is only 37" long, and most are between 34" to 36"). Beside the dog holes ending up on a joint, (which I would not do) is there anything else that I would have to be concerned about????

I am just starting to get the frame work started and would really appreciate all the information (for or against) running the top boards the narrow way instead of the long way.

i will be patiently awaiting, because I value all you guys out there that have many years of experience and with that comes knowledge and that is why I am here, to learn.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Brand new, forced disability retired General Superintendent building big box buildings, (tilt-up panels) was our expertise. I've been in the construction business for over 40 yrs. Started out doing residential renovations & additions, to building homes, strip centers, motels, etc. Then for the last 16 yrs. been a Superintendent for large commercial & industrial project all over the country.
Enough of that, as I started to say is, I am a NFG (New Funny Guy) you guys though I was going to tell you the real def. huh!!. Anyway I have a new 10' x 20' building just placed in the back yard, I have to do the electric, insulate it, drywall and flooring, AND THEN my pride and joy of making my long awaited Woodworking Work Bench.
Just 15 mins. ago on eBay, I won the bid on a "Jorgenson Woodworkers Vise 7" Rapid Acting" only $77.00 it was a great buy and it's going to be my end vise on the new bench.

So that's where I am, brand new, first time CALLER as they use to say, and I hope this is the proper place to be putting all this stuff.

I really don't know what blogs are so I tried here.

I have been acquiring my shop tools for a while now and I am in pretty good shape to have a nice woodworking shop to keep me busy.

So Hello, and I am ready to LEARN
