Project Information

I finally needed to cut some circles, so I went ahead and made a jig for the bandsaw. It has a piece of oak that rides in the miter slot of the table and holds the two outside pieces together along with another cross piece under the section hanging out beyond the table. These two side pieces are cut on a 45 degree angle to trap the slider with the pivot point which is cut to match. I didn't actually cut the slider to match though, I cut all the parts first and assembled them so as to capture the slider. Some paper shims left it snug but easy to slide. A screw in the cross piece holds the slider where I want it. I'll probably replace the screw with some other mechanism as I can imagine having trouble if I need to set the slider near an existing screw hole, but I'll wait on that till I need to.

Oh, and my resaw blade is not a great choice for anything under 18 inches in diameter; the 1/4 inch blade works much better!

Thanks for looking,

Simple, and effective = a perfect jig. I think I'll bookmark this one so I can refer back to it when its time to make a circle cutting jig.
