Project Information

This is my multi-function table saw jig. I use it for cheek cuts on tenons, as a "tall fence" and a pattern jig. I can square an edge of a board, joint a really ragged edge that would take multiple passes on the jointer, cut spline slots in the end of a board both at 90 degrees and 45, (or any other angle for that matter).

I HAD TO CUT THIS POST SHORT DUE TO FAMILY OBLIGATIONS…SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFO

David,

Looks like a versatile jig…

The board with 2 bolts sticking up…
At first, I thought for hold down clamps… then I see that there isn't much room for a board to be clamped to the carrier… How is it used?

Hi David , looks interesting but needs some commentary and perhaps disassembly of the unit to show us how it works

Thanks guys, you are right, it is difficult to see how this works without further explaination. When I was posting last night, I got called away to family duties so I had to cut it short.

@Joe, the board you are referring to is the fence for holding boards vertically for tenons and spline slots. It has one bolt and one steel indexing pin. The pin is at the bottom when I stand the board vertically. The pin goes in a hole on the base and sets the angle of the board. There is a tiny amount of play so I can use my square to get an exact 90 degrees, then tighten the knob on the bolt at the top.

I plan to add another index hole at 45 degrees for cutting spline slots in miters. I will need to trim the bottom of the fence to accomodate the angle but it is getting chewed up anyway from making cuts. I can also turn the board with pin and bolt facing out, set any angle I want and clamp it in place. This way I can make cheek cuts on angled tenons.

The entire jig slides along the table saw fence to cut the tenons, spline slots…etc. I can clamp a pair of stop blocks on the table saw fence to lock it in place. Then I can add a board to act as a tall fence as seen here.

The tall fence is great for cutting raised panels. I can add a longer board if needed as well. That is the coolest part of this jig…it is so versatile.

The pattern cutting function is accomplished by taking the fence off, turning it horizonatally and clamping it in place as seen here:

I got the idea for the pattern cutting function from a ShopNotes video.

I hope this clears things up a bit. I am sure there are other uses for this jig as well. It is an extremely inexpensive multi-function solution to a lot of shop tasks.

@Chipy, I love the table saw!! I have no complaints. Now, about the humidity…what??? It has been absolutely beautiful here in South West Florida!! I have no A/C in my garage workshop and in a couple of months it will be a steam bath in there. I am moving next month to a new house so I will have to put the woodworking on hold for a while but at least I get to design my new shop from scratch. LOL

Throw some fans in the shop and start cutting some wood. LOL

Here is a short video that demonstrates one of the functions of the pattern cutting function. I used it as if it were a flush trim bit to trim an overhang flush with the side of a box.
