Project Information

Was in the need for a hollowing tool that pivots and didn't like the price on line or in the woodworking stores..so I figured I'd make my own. Bought the cutter from Rockler for 12 bucks, 1/2 inch steel bar from Ace hardware for 7 bucks, used a piece of scrap hardwood to turn a handle, tapped the end, epoxied it in and now I have a sturdy hollowing tool. total cost 19 bucks. Put some black stamp pad replenisher ink and polyurethane on the handle and called it a day. Let me know what you guys think. Cuts like butter. Nothing better than making your own tools.
Almost as good as woodworking itself !

You did a fantastic job! Definitely looks store bought as Erwin says. Does Rockler offer other cutters?

Great job, that's thinking outside the box, sometimes the only way to get what you need/want is build it yourself, I salute you.

Brandon- yeah originally looking for a round cutter which they normally carry but were out so I made the hollower instead. The answer is yes but there are a lot of manufacturers that make carbide cutters too.
