Project Information

Well it is official everyone in my house has made pens to give as Christmas gifts including my daughter. She asked if she could turn some pens for her teachers this year. I did the roughing on these and then she jumped in to help for the rest of the process. This is the first pens she has made at home with just me to assist her, she had some help at a Turn for the Troops event and also last year's Woodworking Show. As always I loved spending time with her in the shop and I am sure we will be making more. She has a Purple Heart blank picked out that she would like to have as a pen.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

I hope she will continue on, great way to involve her. By the way, does her mother know she is handling sharp instruments

Thanks for all the comments, I will certainly pass the on to my daughter. She is 5 right now and I am hoping to continue to keep her involved in the shop as long as I can.
Norman as to her mom, yep she is encouraging it. The two links will take you to pens she got help on when she was 4 :). Plus my wife likes turning them as well, so she knows what the process entails.

I have a new grandson just two days old. I cannot waitto get him in the shop. The problem is I am 73 years old. Well, I guess I will have to lie about my age.

It is good to start them while they are young.

Thanks Again All, She is really looking forward to giving her teachers their pens. She was very happy when I told her she wound up on the front page today as well, made it up to #8.

@Bearpaw, Congrats! My fondest memories are of working with my grandfather.
@spunwood, get them started on small things early. My daughter was helping glue stuff together around 3 or so. It is just fun to have them in the shop.
@Phil-That meant a lot to her, maybe we'll make you one :) See you soon Brother.

The true joy of parenthood, just as you think your love, joy and pride cannot get any greater, they do.

Top job, her for making the pens and you for making a great kid.

Keep up the good work.
