Project Information
Made from some scrap oak. I used a 2" forstner bit for the handle ends and a 1" forstner for the rod tip ends. The throats were cut using a bandsaw. The handle side has one opening with a throat also cut for one of my fly fishing rods. My router is pretty big, so I used my Dremel with 1/8th inch router bit and router attachment to smooth over the edges more uniformly than sanding the edges over. It's sanded to 180, raised the grain, then sanded to 220, and finished with a waterproofing seal coat. Since it was made from scrap and I'm not too concerned, I lighted rubbed it all down with #0000 steel wool and paste wax. I actually love the way that turned out. It might not last 6 months, but I had fun building this since I didn't use any plans. I just fired up the saws and drills and put it together.
