Westline Block plane - 10 replies

Hey folks, I picked up a Westline Block Plane No. 4H6212 7” long by Western Auto Co. It’s in pretty decent shape other than some surface rust and I only paid $15 for it. I was curious if anyone had any information on these planes. When it was made, is it of good quality, worth cleaning up and using? anything would be ...

Hey guys, I’ve been trying to improve my skills on the jointer and don’t seem to be having very good luck on my own, when i lay my jointed edge (i assume it is happening on the face too, just haven’t noticed it) down, it is convex…i think…makes a frown. now i am putting pressure on the outfeed side, but not to mu...

Chisel Sharpening - 7 replies

I’m sharpenning my chisels with the generic honing guide and a norton combination oilstone, It is sharpening a little uneven, i really notice it when i’m doing the micro bevel, sharpening at a little bit of an angle. Do I need to file the grooves in the guide in order to square them up? Or could my technique be wrong somehow?

need help with logistics - 8 replies

I’m not sure if this picture will show up, but a buddy of mine is looking for a modern style coffee table similar to this one, and my question is the best way to build this while keeping the cost down for him, I am thinking just simple 2×4 framing sheathed in plywood with some edge banding? Would this be the best way to accomplish...

I’m looking to make a texas flag cutting board but cannot figure out how to get the maple star inlayed into the walnut section, i’m looking to do this with hand tools and have tried a few times by tracing a pattern with a marking knife and trying to slowly pair it out but with very sloppy results at best, is there any tips on this or...

Now, I may be way off on my knowledge of insulation, but i have heard it said that an airgap between the wall and insulation is helpful, i’m getting ready to begin installing foam inulation in my shop and my question is do i want the insulation pressed against the outside metal wall or flush with the studs so it will be against the OSB inn...

Wife of the year - 13 replies

So, I’ve nominated my lovely wife for this award, over the last month she has surprised me with a 6” jointer (no idea on the brand it has no name plates) that is square and sharp, a window a/c unit because summer in south Texas is rough inside a metal building, and today a jet 1200 2hp dust collector complete with pipes, fittings, bl...

Woodwhisperer assembly table as a workbench - 7 replies

So i was thinking about building the assembly table from the woodwhisperer and using it as an outfeed table, but i’m in such a small shop that I would be hardpressed to have a large outfeed/assembly table and a decent sized workbench as well…so i’m wondering if i could put dog holes in the torsion box top to use with a vise, I&...
