« Part 6: more finishing work Part 7 of Sofa Table from tension wood series no next part

This will be the final post for my blog regarding the sofa table. Tomorrow I will add the finished table to projects.

Before I reached that point, I glued the top to the aprons. Then it rained for four days, so the finish work was delayed. As much as possible I tried to protect my shelf during the spraying to avoid any over spray. I also added craft paper to the legs when spraying the top.

There really were no problems at this stage. I added the sixth coat this evening. By tomorrow, there should be enough good light for some photos for the final reveal.

This was not the most challenging piece, but the tension wood and the finish of the book matched sides added some additional thought to achieve the desired outcome. Overall, I am satisfied to have created a stable piece of furniture, which will last for many decades. If I had not added the unstable koa to the calmer walnut, it would have been a nightmare. The next time you run a piece of wood through the table saw and it binds immediately, you probably have some tension wood. If you create a laminate with a stable wood, you can calm the beast.

Best regards,
