Calif. Prop 65, sanding pads, Amazon

Just tried to purchase a replacement pad for my DeWalt RO sander from Amazon. Got a notice telling me that they can’t ship it in to California due to a problem with prop 65 warnings that the dust from sanding can cause various cancers and health problems. I had to drop ship it to a relative out of state and have him send it to me via USPS.
Amazon is perfectly happy to allow you to buy a new sander from lots of suppliers, as well as sanding discs of various grits, but replacement pads are apparently bad for your health.
Now, I know that legislators aren’t the brightest bulbs in the box, but by what magic of lobbying or sheer stupidity did we end up in this spot??
Can anyone explain this?

Is that what that means? I’ve seen that warning on a few products I bought, but as I’m in Canada, I had no clue that it prevented it from being sold there.

To further confuse things, I just purchased the exact same item on ebay and had it shipped directly to my home in California. Makes me wonder if this is an Amazon screw-up, or if it’s truly a legislative snafu.

Items sold on ebay comes from an individual seller who could probably care less about regulations…

Amazon is a much bigger entity that most likely errors on the side of caution seeing as how they have much deeper pockets than an ebay seller.

Either way, how did we get here. This is truly sad and stupid.

CA Prop 65 is the most absurd voter initiative out there. My bronze Lie Nielsen planes carry a Prop 65 warning. Give me a break. Several common prescription medications contain ingredients included on the Prop 65 list. Acetaminophen is included for God’s sake. That’s just plain Tylenol, not even the tainted stuff from the ‘80s Chicago murders that led to every freaking product being made impossible to open.

Your toilet paper is probably included as well.

Not known to the State of California to be a cancer risk, but sure as heck will cause a rash.
