Recently I was planning some 4/4 walnut and cherry to make a box. I got greedy and was gang feeding the 10 inch wide by 14in long boards thru the planer and the cutter head slowed down but the motor kept up the rpms and then everything stopped except the motor. I melted the drive belt! To make a long story short, I called every Porter Cable Delta place to see if I could get a new drive belt. Absolutly no luck, was told at the last place that the belt was discontinued. Nooo! Fortunately the word Bando and a number was printed on the belt. It looked like the serpentine belt on the car so I called my mechanic friend and he said that Bando is a very common belt maker. He gave me the number at Bando and I called, talked to a John Gelb and was told that that particular belt is available. He gave me a local distributor and I should have the belt in a week or so. For a brief moment during this ordeal I thought I would have another planer boat anchor. For those interested www.bandousa.com 800-829-6612

Hey Bob, I have the same planer and it has been a real work horse for me. I will write the number down for future referance. Where do you buy your replacement blades? They seem to be very hard to find here in AZ. The last set I bought was at Lowes and they no longer have them. I am on my third set.

to TheOldTimer—- That’s a very good question. I’m only on the second side of the original knives. I bought a second set of knives for my 6inch jointer from JESADA. I just checked and I have another set of double edged knives that I got when I bought the planer. I have no dought that a set of 12inch knives would be availble somewhere other than Lowes. I just looked up planer knives in the Grizzly catalog and I found alot. Worst come to worst there may be a local saw shapening shop around. Hope that helps. bob

could you share the part number for the belt. I just picked one up at the local delta parts distributor for $20.00. I thought that was pretty steep for a tiny belt. What was the price on yours?

apbeachy—I didn’t buy the belts from a Delta parts place, it was a bando distibutor and the part was a bando no 135J6U and I paid $38.19 for two of them. I guess that’s about right that you paid $20 for one. I know that I’ll be more careful when planning.
