Woodriver Butt Chisels Review

05-08-2016 05:23 PM by Marty Backe | 1 comment »

Woodcraft had a recent sale ($50) of their 4 piece Woodriver Butt Chisels, so I bought a set. Here I provide a closer look, including flattening and sharpening one, and ending with an end grain shaving demonstration.

I met Rob Cosman! My first trip to Woodcraft.

10-14-2015 12:11 AM by Chris McDowell | 8 comments »

I went to Woodcraft for the first time ever in order to get some tools so that I can start doing some turning on my new lathe. Couldn’t have picked a better day to go. The entire store was 15% off. Also, when I walked in I saw a group of people standing around a workbench near the entrance. I recognized the dude they were all talking to and realized that it was Rob Cosman, the great hand-tool woodworker from Canada. He’s on YouTube as well. Check him out. Watch the video her...

12-20-2014 10:19 PM by xraydav | 0 comments »

Well I have been quite about carving as there as little interest in my last post, but my confidence is growing and I wanted to do another post. Been working on carving fans both from Mary May’s online school or carving and a course i took at Woodcraft in Walpole MA with Andrew Tiexiera. The fans are all of period American furniture.

Big issues with Ordering Online with Woodcraft

12-17-2014 04:30 PM by DurhamAzeotropes | 7 comments »

Ok, it all started on ‘Cyber Monday’ when woodcraft had some special for the Groz 4 pack parrallel clamp set for (I think) around 80 bucks. It was later in the day and decided to purchase 2 (probably around 10-10:30 pm), I did separate orders on different credit cards for budgetary reasons. After making the orders I never recieved any emails confirming my purchase, or stating if there was any sort of issue. A few days later, still nothing, so I email the customer service asking wh...

Support you local woodworking shops, or lose them

The Woodcraft store in Libertyville, IL, closed its doors for good on March 19. Over the previous two weeks, I had received emails from the store announcing huge discounts… 30% off everything, then 50, then 75. While no closing was announced, it was pretty obvious what was coming. Part of me wanted to make the hour drive and load up my car with half-price lumber and grab whatever tools were left. Part of me felt awful at the thought of picking the bones of a store I didn’t supp...

The old time woodshop journals #43: Across the Seas of Woodcraft!

05-01-2013 07:55 PM by jjw5858 | 7 comments »

I was a very fortunate woodworker this week to receive correspondence from a special friend. Of course it is MADS! Mads for the few who may be unaware of his positive presence on lumberjocks is a fantastic woodworker, designer, and all around spiritual character. Basically he makes the entire experience of sharing on Lumberjocks all the more interesting and fun. As I opened the envelope there before me was a wonderful letter full of good things. A handmade Origami Crane…wow, I lov...

Ok, I am from New Orleans and we do not have anything like a Woodcraft store in my entire state. My wife and I were on vacation in San Antonio this week and just a couple of miles outside the city was a Woodcraft store. We had some time to kill one morning and headed over there. Now, I am pretty new to wood working and very much an amateur, but when I walked in that place I wanted to kiss the floor. I get the Woodcraft catalogue every month, but being there in person is just so much better. ...

Crazy Stuff Stumpy Thinks About #33: Look out evil- there's a guy running around with a measuring tape!

02-07-2013 06:45 PM by StumpyNubs | 12 comments »

Woodworkers get inspiration from the most unlikely of sources. Recently I was eating a sandwich when it hit me: I’ve been getting ripped off! Maybe I should give you a little background on this… A couple of weeks ago I read a news story about a guy who was suing Subway restaurants because his “foot long” sub wasn’t a full twelve inches. Apparently he felt a little empty inside after consuming his cold cut combo. So he went around town ordering from every Subway he could find and measuring...

Woodcraft WoodRiver Collet Chuck Rework

01-06-2013 04:43 PM by horologist | 2 comments »

I bought the collet chuck when I had some Woodcraft gift certificates to burn and had one of those “this would be perfect for…...” ideas. My general rule is to avoid all cutting tools or tools requiring any sort of precision that are made in China. For the most part this rule has served me well, however in this case the fit and finish of the set seemed very good, so with gift certificates burning a hole in my pocket I decided to take a chance. The intended project never ...
