Wood pattern for casting iron flowers #3: Subtracting the inside from the outside yields a flower with just the right wall thickness

That is of course, if your wire-frames layouts are accurate. Here are some closer looks at the plugs. Notice the direction of the grain on the two pieces???I could not decide which direction would be the easiest to work, so I tried both ways.(It’s been so long that I can’t remember which one was the better choice) Anyway,The individual “petals” were roughed to shape on the disc sander. They were finished with a spoke sheave and t...

New Shop! #11: Finished (Years Later)

07-29-2016 02:24 AM by Ryan Haasen | 7 comments »

Let me first apologize to those of you who were following my shop build back in 2012 – I forgot to post the finished product! I suppose my incomplete blog is the result of a combination of excitement with my new shop and just being busy with woodworking, school, and life in general. I know that if I was following a build and they failed to post the complete shop, I’d be a little ticked off! Now that I’ve got that out of the way, let’s move on to the shop. I will beg...

Workshop 2016 #3: Onward and upward!

01-20-2016 06:45 AM by Ty Sullivan | 0 comments »

Now that the new year has started I’m getting entangled in fine tuning my new space and all the daydreams that go along with it. The table saw has had a few small, short runs checking the fence and installing risers to my assembly table so that it can learn a new trick as an out feed table! I had a small bit of oak ply laying around and it works out perfect to add just the right height I needed to the table. As you’ll see it’s just barely below the table saw top so the...

The long 7 year wait is over!!!! I have finally posted photos of my wood shop. Granted, they are just some snapshots of the shop from concrete slab to some more recent shots. I’ll try to clean up and get some nicer shots, if I have time. Thanks for going over and taking a look. Sawdustonmyshoulder's wood shop

Woodshop/Garage Build #1: Phase 1 - clearing lot

04-13-2015 12:44 AM by BMichs75 | 1 comment »

LJ’s,So I have been planning this shop/garage build since my wife and I purchased our first house last summer. I have been out of woodworking since then and, as my wife would attest, I have been really cranky not being able to make sawdust. The long winter here in Ohio has really taken its toll on me but has given me time to research a lot for the upcoming build. I have a background in residential construction when I was in high school (10 yrs ago) and have kept in touch with my old bos...

New Shop

02-15-2015 09:34 AM by Edwardnorton | 6 comments »

Now that our kids are grown I retired. Sold all of our 35 rental homes, sold and moved out of original home to move into a much smaller one. Our original home was 7,000 sq. ft. and the new one is a mere 2,500 with a 2 car garage but I do have a 10 acre lawn to build on. Only thing I’ve missed from our old home is the 55×70 shop I had so I’ve decided to have another built. My new one will be 70×70. The tools I have are an old Hitachi table saw, Hitachi 12 inch bandsaw, Dewalt mitersaw a...
